At the University of Tasmania we see socially responsible design as one of the greatest creative challenges facing designers today. We’re committed to helping you embrace your creativity and passion to tackle that challenge head on. You’ll learn from lecturers who are all active designers and researchers, benefiting from their experiences throughout your education. You will learn the complexities of planning and building real-world projects for actual clients, typically community organisations.
Our internationally recognised ‘Learning-by-Making’ program and interdisciplinary approach gives you experience with multiple design specialisations, giving you a well-rounded set of skills and knowledge to enhance your career opportunities.
Our location and facilities demonstrate that we practise what we preach. Students study in a former diesel locomotive workshop that is now adapted into an award-winning and environmentally sustainable building that promotes engagement and inspiration.
A practical and innovative approach to teaching is supported by the best in design facilities. You’ll have space to research, develop, design and build in our large studios that include expansive workshops equipped with the latest in digital fabrication technology.
